PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Cushioned, yet responsive
  • Breathable upper
  • Lock laces

CONS

  • Areas where different fabrics met, left blisters after several attempts
  • Velcro strap is useless for non-triathletes

OUR VERDICT

The Karhu Flow Tri Fulcrum is a lightweight racer designed for the triathlete looking to make a quick transition from the bike to the run. The Velcro strap allows the laces to be left tied only requiring the athlete to put his/her foot in the shoe and secure to velcro to their desired tightness. The shoe seems to run large. I was most impressed by the shoes cushion in spite of its lightweight qualitiy.

WHO IS IT FOR
This shoe is for seasoned runners with good form and strong feet. Triathletes could benefit from this shoe as a race day shoe, this shoe is not for people who only run.

To my knowledge this is Karhu’s first attempt at a shoe such as this. The shoe, I feel, delivers on what it promises….quick, race day shoe that is very well cushioned.

As someone who only runs, I have no use for the strap, but can see its benefits to folks that do tris. The shoe seemed to run big which caused a problem for me and ended up with a blister.

Karhu Flow Tri Fulcrum Shoe General Info

The Karhu Flow Tri is a lightweight short distance trainer/raceday shoe. It was designed by triathletes looking for a fast transition.

Out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the padded heel cuffs. The first thing I noticed while running was the incredible amount of cushion for such a lightweight shoe.

Karhu Flow Tri Fulcrum Sole Info

I’d suspect the sole to hold up like most other shoes in this category….anything past 250 miles should be considered outstanding.

Karhu Flow Tri Fulcrum Upper Info

The upper was extremely lightweight and very breatheable. There are two fabrics, where they meet caused me to get a blister on my little toe.

Karhu Flow Tri Fulcrum Conclusions

Not a bad shoe for its intended audience, not for folks who only run. I was most impressed by the cushioned ride even though it is a lightweight race day shoe. I was least impressed by the sizing and velcro strap.

We thank the nice people at Karhu for sending us a pair of Flow Tri Fulcrum to test. This did not influence the outcome of the review, written after running more than 50 miles in them.
