Men’s Podium
Winner: Eliud Kipchoge | 2:02:42
Eliud Kipchoge was able to conquer his fifth Berlin marathon win. He did not manage to break his own record or to drop under 2 hours, but this wins still cements him as one of the greatest of all time.
No surprises there, Kipchoge is wearing Nike – the third iteration of the Alphafly.
Runner-up: Vincent Kipkemoi | 2:03:13
The Kenyan athlete arrived 31 seconds after Kipchoge – an incredible feat. On his feet the Asics Metaspeed Sky+ – one of our favorite racers.
Third place: Tadese Takele | 2:03:23
Another great time comes from this young Ethiopian athlete, who also managed to stay within a minute from the winner. On his feet a pair of adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3.
Women’s Podium
Winner: Tigst Assefa | 2:11:53
The Ethiopian runner was the news of the day! She shattered the Marathon World Record by more than 2 minutes.
She accomplished this in Adidas’ latest secret weapon: the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. We will be seeing more and more of these shoes on the podiums, I am sure.
Runner-up: Sheila Chepkirui | 2:17:49
The Kenyan runner ended her race 6 minutes after the winner – and she was also wearing the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1.
Third place: Magdalena Shauri | 2:18:41
Coming in less than a minute after the second place, this athlete from Tanzania was wearing a pair of Anta C202 5 GT Pro. A shoe that I need to admit we are not familiar with.
