METASPEED is Asics' collection of top racing shoes, for their Elite athletes and for any runner who wants the best shoes for competing.
In honor of the upcoming Paris Olympics, Asics released 2 version of their carbon plated racers: the Metaspeed Sky Paris and the Metaspeed Edge Paris.
They have the same price and they look very similar. But what are the differences? Who should buy one and who the other?
The Metaspeed SKY Paris and Edge Paris both have the same stack height: 39.5mm at the heel and 34.5mm at the toe – resulting in a 5mm drop.
Both shoes use the new FF Turbo+ midsole. FF Turbo+ is quite hard and does not compress much, so the ride of both shoes is quite hard.
The main difference is in the carbon plate.
The plate of the Sky Paris sits closer to your foot than in the Edge Paris, so there’s less foam between your foot and the plate.
In short, the Sky Paris is better for short, fast workouts like intervals and strides – while the Edge Paris is better for longer efforts.
Both shoes are quite hard though, so although they run fast, they are not the most comfortable.
The uppers of the two shoes are extremely similar.
They are lightweight and breathable, although both are quite narrow. Tongue is not gusseted but it does not move around too badly during runs.
Whatever of these two shoes you buy, they will feel and be fast – but none of those rides will be soft or bouncy or anything like that.
This said, pick the Metaspeed Sky Paris if you are a forefoot striker with a powerful footstrike.
If you are a heel striker with a quick cadence who enjoys a forward rolling motion, then you should choose the Metaspeed Edge Paris.
